Gold American Eagle Coins Will Be Big in 2012

Gold American Eagle coins have seen some really amazing sales the past few years.  In 2011, one million ounces of gold eagles were sold!  Will the 2012 year be able to top that impressive figure?  Only time will tell, though the year has started out with strong sales, which is a promising sign.  Perhaps it is time to consider investing a portion of your assets in American Eagle coins.

Gold Eagle coins are the official gold bullion coins of the United States, meaning you can purchase them with confidence knowing they were minted by the government and have a guaranteed gold content, weight and purity level.  The coins were first minted in the year 1986, and come in a full ounce size, as well as fractional sizes all the way down to 1/10 an ounce of gold.  The various sizes allow investors to choose the investment amount that they want to make in these coins.  It is also possible to collect proof versions of the coins or buy regular bullion versions for investing.

Gold American Eagle coins feature the lovely image of Lady Liberty, proudly holding the olive branch in one hand and the torch in the other while her long hair flows behind her.  If you look closely at the coin, you can also see the Capitol Building in the background.  This design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.  The reverse side of the coin was designed by Miley Busiek and depicts two American eagles.  One eagle is soaring in the air with an olive branch and the other eagle is seated in the nest.  Some argue that these are the most beautiful coins made by the United States to date!

American Eagle coins also come in other precious metals including silver and platinum.  If current plans carry thorough and enough demand is found then the precious metal palladium may soon join the ranks.  Of course, nothing can really beat the biggest investment metal, gold.  The 2012 version gold American Eagle coins have already gone on sale, and may be setting records before the month of January is out.

The strong start in sales for the gold American Eagle coins may last a while, as people continue stocking up on gold, silver and other precious metals.  If you have been considering diversifying your portfolio, then precious metals are a great place to begin.  Contact a precious metals dealer to get started today!
